The Problem – Hardness (Lime)

Water dissolves lime into itself as it passes through rocks and soils. Water which contains dissolved limestone is said to be “hard”. When this hard water is heated the lime reverts back to its solid state, i.e. limescale, causing scaling problems in Kettles, Showers, Dishwashers, Washing Machines, Immersion Heaters, Central Heating, Hot Water Pipes, etc. It makes them less efficient and they need to be serviced much more frequently. In addition to all this the scale makes it much more expensive to heat the water.

Hard water also forms a “scum” which floats on sinks, baths and dishwashers and makes everything more difficult to clean. Tableware, clothes, skin and hair look dull and feel lifeless. More shampoo, washing-up liquid and Calgon are used to counteract the limescale, which is very hard on the hands and often causes skin problems. It also forms a thin scale or scum that floats on top of tea.

Bottled Quality Water on Tap

In addition to softening the water in your home, you might like to have Bottled Quality Water on tap, if so you have two options. The one that gives the best results is an RO Unit. RO stands for Reverse Osmosis; osmosis is nature’s way of filtering; modern technology has adopted it, reversed it and modified it, to give ultra pure water. It is a series of 6 filters getting finer and finer and ending with the RO membrane which is self-cleansing. The RO will remove approximately from 95% to 98% of nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, fluoride, chlorine and anything else that might be harmful in the water. The water then passes through a re-mineralisng filter to raise the pH and introduce healthy minerals into the water.

The filters in the RO unit need to be changed every 18 months to ensure that the system continues to work efficiently. The filters can be supplied and or fitted by ourselves.

The combination of these units will give you the best imaginable quality of water for your home, with beautiful soft water throughout the house and all the Bottled Quality Water you need at the kitchen tap.

A Drinking Water System (DWS)

The second option is a Drinking Water System; apart from the excessive hardness, and the taste from the chlorine, used in public supply schemes to chlorinate the water to protect it from bacteria, the quality is generally quite good. The DWS will remove any unpleasant odour or taste, particles or colour.

The filter in the DWS should be changed every 12 months. The filter can be supplied and or fitted by ourselves.
